MOTORSPORT: NCS impressed by the Youth Development Programme of Motorsport as Uganda finishes second at the 2016 FIM Africa MXOAN, Nairobi Kenya
Uganda finished 2nd at the 2016 FIM Africa MXOAN Championships that took place from 20th- 21st August 2016 in Nairobi Kenya. Kenya emerged champion with only 21 points ahead of Uganda. Zambia, (3rd), South Africa (4th) and Botswana (5th) are the other countries that participated in the event. Team Captain, Maxine Van Pee expressed excitement for Team Uganda's second position finish and noted that Motorsports is growing steadily as shown by a big contingent of 34 riders that represented Uganda at the event. The remarks were made during the ceremony to present the Trophies and handover the National Flag back to National Council of sports at Lugogo. National Council of Sports supported the Team with Ush7.5Million. The General Secretary, NCS was impressed by the big pool of young riders who are engaging in the sport and committed increased government funding to motorsport due to their Youth Development programme. The Team shall now prepare for the East Africa Championship in December 2016 as a build up for the next Edition of the 2017 FIM Africa MXOAN Championships in Botswana. Uganda is also planning to bid to host the 2018 Edition.
