BOXING: Bombers fly high at Bingwa wa Mabingwa challenge

Uganda national boxing team -The Bombers are flying high at the Bingwa wa Mabingwa boxing championship that is concluding in Dar es Salam, Tanzania today Thursday).

By virtue of having qualified five boxers in the final of the competition Uganda is already guaranteed silver medals at the regional competition.

Middleweight Yusuf Babu, Lightweight Muzamir Kakande, Lightheavy weight, and Reagan Ssimbwa are in finals.

Bantamweight Nasir Bashir dramatically recovered to win his semifinal bout against Tanzanian Ahmed Furahisha of Tanzania and qualify for the final this evening.

Nashir was head-batted by his Tanzanian opponent in the quarterfinal and had to be rushed to a medical facility for attention Tuesday night.

Bingwa wa Mabingwa boxing championship 2016 has attracted Kenya, Rwanda, two host teams from Tanzania and Uganda six of the seven boxers are still on course for silver and gold medals.

The team of seven Bombers and two officials was sponsored by National Council of Sports.

Uganda last competed in 2007 when it was still called InterCities boxing championship and finished third overall.
